1. Size matters
Digital cameras in most cases take big photos which for the internet are not really that good. You only really need smallish photos
The best option I have found for this is Photo resize magic
This will let you resize photos in bulk easily. It will resize a whole folder of photos.
Tip! Rather than resize all your photos, resize them as copies.
Download the programme from here Photo resize magic and install
Now go to the folder of photos you want to resize and create a new folder and name it "resized"
Open Photo resize magic and browse to the folder or photos you want to resize and click to add
Then in the "destination" folder browse to "resized" this will put all the resized photos in the new folder you created
In the size box select the size you want, I personally use 1024x768.
Click start and all you photos will be resized as copies in the new folder you created earlier
2. Uploading to gallery
First you need to find the rally album you want to add photos too
Then create a sub album within it by clicking create new nested album
Remember to name it and then you can add photos
When you click "add photos" you will be presented with a popup with tabs which give you various options:
a. Applet - (bulk uploader)Best option
b. Applet (big} - (bulk uploader)
c. Form - Upload 5 at a time
d. URL - not applicable
e. Other - not applicable
The Applet will take a bit of time to load but once done you can start adding pics
Once the Applet appears browse to the "resized" folder and select the photos you resized earlier
Please keep the batches a reasonable size don't to upload hundreds at one time

Advanced - optional
The best way to upload photo's to gallery is to use a bulk uploader. I recommend Gallery Remote
If you download the bigger version it contains everything you need.
Current version: 1.5 >> JVM included (better) >> download "exe 30 MB" this is an exe file and will install gallery remote on your p.c.
Once installed follow the instructions to connect to this gallery. You will need to register as a user first
With gallery remote can do everything from your desktop, create albums and sub albums, upload and download photos, rename etc etc
